Kiel (WLUK) — A Kiel-based company is celebrating a milestone by making the city a little greener.

Amerequip marked its 100th year of operations in 2020.

As a way to give back, the company donated 100 trees to the city of Kiel.

On Tuesday (April 20), Amerequip employees joined city workers to plant the first trees at Hingiss Park.

“After a century of operations in the community we were looking for a way to celebrate our anniversary that would carry through the next century,” said Amerequip president and CEO Mike VanderZanden. “Obviously, with COVID restrictions during the past year, we weren’t really able to do anything publicly. So this year, we are moving forward. With our company’s focus on equipment for lawns and landscapes, planting trees throughout our home base of Kiel was the perfect choice.”

In the coming weeks, additional Amerequip team members will continue to help plant the trees in other Kiel parks, including Waack Park, Big Rock Park and Belitz Park.
